Project Proposal – Blake Park Vertical Ramp Upgrade
Hi Stuart,
The Blake Park vertical ramp is a 21 year old iconic Bay of Plenty landmark. The half- pipe ‘U’ shaped structure is the universal symbol for extreme sports athleticism and is a complete compliment to surfing.
The structure of this community amenity is likely to be decommissioned in 2011 by the TCC Tauranga City Council. MSA Mount Skateboarding Association has maintained the plywood exterior surface and underlying structure for the last 8 years. MSA, established in 2002, represents more than 20 active members dedicated to maintaining vertical skateboarding facilities in BOP; Without dedication from MSA, the Blake Park ramp facility would have faced demolition in 2002.
BOP has always set that standard of vert skateboarding in New Zealand, is the permanent home to many boardriders of international standard. Whilst all boardriders love and respect the existing Blake Park facility, it is not up to international standard. This proposal provides the detail required to approve the upgrade; is complete with detailed specifications, attached.
The vertical ramp upgrade strengthens BOP status and attractiveness as a destination for surfing and recreation.
Whilst the facility requires no day-to-day management, MSA is dedicated to ensuring this facility is maintained, liaised with TCC as required, to ensure an international standard.
